A Japanese researcher has built a prototype “lickable” TV screen that mimics food flavors, according to Reuters.

The flavor is applied to a “hygienic film” that is rolled over the screen for the spectator to slurp up, dubbed Taste-the-TV.

To train chefs or sommeliers remotely, Meiji University professor Home Miyashita proposed it may be done with the help of this technology.

He calculated that the TV would cost $875 (£735) if manufactured commercially. With this technology, “we want to make it feasible for individuals to have the feeling of dining at a restaurant in another country while staying in their own homes,” he told the press.

Flavor spraying technology could be used to flavor toast, according to reports.
